I recently spent an unhinged amount of time over a single still-life photo – Capturing Spring. I wanted to create a mythical adjacent image as part of my ongoing obsession with low-key fantasy-styled images around the idea of the passing of spring.
The focus of the image was to be a sprig of buttercups in a bottle with a beam of sunlight highlighting it. Because I can be deeply disorganised, I set up the scene, got distracted and left it so long that most of the buttercups had gone from our garden. I managed to grab the last few just in time and have since vowed not to plan photographs which involve time-sensitive flora.
Here follows a selection of the process shots and a set of different takes on the final image.
