I’ve been experimenting with self-portraits using slow shutter speeds and multiple light sources firing at different times (strobing and rear curtain flash). I love the effects this gives and I really enjoy the more chaotic nature of it compared to my usual incredibly careful lighting strategies.
Working with it as a self-portrait adds the extra level of challenge as I have to trigger the camera and create the appropriate movements myself. 10 second timer on my camera is a blessing.
Here’s some of my recent images. I’m working on luring another human into the studio to work with me on this. For clarity, the images below are created in camera, there’s no post-processing/photoshop outside of cropping and some exposure adjustments.
